Tumblelog

Announcing the latest redesign of danny-garcia.com
This is not just a refresh of the old design but it introduces a unique concept that is still very much in it’s infancy. I’ve modeled it after Jason Santa Maria’s project (among others) that allows the author to create a unique design for each article. This is not meant to be a ripoff at all (most articles have a unique design), but more of a desire to bring this awesome new concept further credibility (it is, in fact, very easy to set up). Just like all of us that have joined the whole Tumblelog thing – it may not be right for you, but it sure is frickin’ awesome.
I’ve spent the past month or so mocking this up, creating templates and ExpressionEngine-izing it. So hopefully you guys like it! :)
I’m glad to have finally released this but I am more excited about the possibilities of this system. It’s still a work in progress and not everything links out correctly but the basic concept of it works well. Stick around and you’ll see a better example of what’s possible in future articles.

Eh. Tumblr has one major problem when posting items. Sometimes the description of images, links, videos and other posts don’t automatically add paragraph tags. I don’t know if this is just an issue with the bookmarklet or what but it’s freakin’ annoying because it screws up all the padding and, well, frankly it makes me sad.

(sad face goes here)

Yay! New design for the new year. Well, honestly, I decided to hold off on moving to ExpressionEngine until they release the 2.0 upgrade. In the mean time I released a tumblr version of my new design!
In the Future?
Look forward to a special Christmas present from me to the tumblr community for all the fun you guys have allowed me to experience over the past year I’ve been on tumblr.
About the Redesign
I think the pic provides a pretty straightforward explanation. But I would encourage you to take a look at the site and mess around with the posts. Let me know if there are any bugs, though (Unless it’s on anything other than the latest Safari 3. I don’t even have the slightest idea of what this looks like in Firefox or IE… not that I have a problem with Firefox but I just don’t use it).
My original intention with EE was to do something similar to Jason Santa Maria’s site. So far that seems to be working but I want to wait for the update. Now, tumblr is a little limited in this regard but changing the layout will only require some quick class changes thanks to the blueprint framework. This also means that it maintains a vertical rhythm that ironically is pointless because I don’t want to have to change each image’s height to match the grid… It’s cool, still looks good.
FONTS! Oh oh oh! The design looks best if you have Gotham installed. I’ll be working on a sIFR alternative soon. In the mean time I have a little something for browsers that support CSS2. If you don’t have Gotham or CSS2 technology it degrades to Helvetica Neue Light (on the post meta), then Helvetica, then Arial and then generic sans-serif. Other than that there’s some serif on post bodies.
The paragraph’s that follow the first in an order are indented. I’m still not sure I really like this, especially with small sentences followed by images… looks a little weird.

Please let me know what you think. I decided not to go with disqus comments so reblog or just a “like” would suffice! I’ll be making updates as time goes by.
